PICK OF THE WEEK:
TACOS EL AUTLENSE
2162 N. Lamb Blvd. at East Lake Mead Boulevard, 702-451-8226
There are some small neighborhood restaurants that may not look like much from the outside. But once inside, it’s a completely different story. The inside of Tacos El Autlense tells a story of authentic Mexican food being presented in a variety of large plates and platters served with refried beans and rice. The story is worth reading, as those plates include chiles rellenos, chicken, carnitas (deep-fried pork), beef, enchiladas, milanesa (breaded beef steak) and flautas. Among the popular breakfasts are huevos rancheros, huevos with ham, chorizo or beef and chilaqules rojos con huevos (fried tortillas in tomato salsa with eggs). Several seafood items are camarones rancheros (mild shrimp) and diabla (hot and spicy shrimp). There are assorted tacos, enchiladas, tostadas and burritos. Sandwiches can be made with ham, beef, pork, tongue, chicken and tripe. Pozole, menudo and birria are available Saturday and Sunday. Plates begin at $5.99. Tacos El Autlense is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. — Jack Bulavsky
