The master-planned community of Summerlin recently welcomed the community's first non-gaming extended-stay hotel, Element by Westin.
The $25 million, 123-suite hotel opened Dec. 18 in The Gardens village at Town Center Drive and the Interstate 215, the Las Vegas Beltway, near Nevada Cancer Institute. Element is a project of Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc. and LaPour Partners Inc.
"Element is a great addition to Summerlin's long list of community amenities, and it's ideally located to accommodate the growing number of patients and families who travel from out of market to visit the renowned Nevada Cancer Institute," said Tom Warden, senior vice president of community and government relations for The Howard Hughes Corp., developer of Summerlin.
"Element is the third hotel in Summerlin, and is uniquely positioned to meet the needs of visitors and the traveling business professional in the community's first extended-stay facility," he said.
Element suites feature fully stocked kitchenettes with stainless-steel appliances, flat-screen televisions, Wi-Fi capabilities, wood floors, oversized windows and Westin's Heavenly beds.
Suites range in price from $100 to $250 per night, depending on the room and season. Hotel amenities include a multi-functional lobby with work space and a technology center, 24-hour fitness center, pool and outdoor barbecue area.
Element is located adjacent to Nevada Cancer Institute, the state's only comprehensive cancer center. The Institute, which treats hundreds of patients annually, opened its 115,000-square-foot, three-story flagship building on five acres in Summerlin in September 2005.
A second 101,000-square-foot administrative building is scheduled to open in early 2009 and a third research building is under construction.
"Element is a much-anticipated amenity in Summerlin," Warden said. "The hotel is expected to be a home-away-from-home for many, and we believe there isn't a better place to call home in Las Vegas than Summerlin -- no matter how long you're here."
Two other hotels located in Summerlin include JW Marriott Las Vegas Resort, Spa & Golf, located in The Canyons village; and Red Rock Casino Resort and Spa, located in Summerlin Centre. Combined, the hotels offer more than 1,500 rooms.
Summerlin began to take shape in 1990 and is located along the western rim of the Las Vegas Valley.
It encompasses 22,500 acres with about 9,000 acres still remaining to accommodate future growth within the master plan, including the community's urban core of Summerlin Centre. The community is currently home to more than 95,000 residents.
Amenities include more than 100 neighborhood and village parks, more than 150 completed miles of the Summerlin trail system, nine golf courses, a dozen houses of worship, shopping centers, medical and cultural facilities, business parks, 23 public and private schools and nearly 100 actively selling floor plans.
Homes are available in a variety of styles -- from single-family homes to townhomes, condominiums and lofts -- priced from the mid-$200,000s to more than $2 million.
Custom home sites in The Ridges are priced from the $500,000s.
Luxury apartment homes offer monthly rents starting from the $900s. For more information on Summerlin, visit summerlin.com or call 888-898-5015.
