English family selects The Club at Madeira Canyon

When Roger and Debbie Hawkins were ready to relocate from England, they began looking throughout Southern Nevada for the best home, location and lifestyle for their family of five. The couple searched nearly eight months before finding The Club at Madeira Canyon by Del Webb in Henderson.

The luxury community is the only Del Webb development in the Las Vegas area that is open to homeowners of all ages.

The Club at Madeira Canyon is a guard-gated enclave located within the 487-acre Madeira Canyon master-planned community. It offers scenic views from its elevated location, along with a host of amenities such as walking trails, park with sports facilities and playgrounds, site for a proposed elementary school and an arroyo.

Home buyers have a choice of 11 floor plans (in three elevation styles), ranging from 2,096 to 4,817 square feet, with up to five bedrooms and 51/2 baths. Prices start in the $600,000s.

The Hawkins family chose the 4,040-square-foot, five-bedroom, 51/2-bath Barcelona design.

"We started looking in March of 2007. However, we were just coming over for seven to 10 days at a time," said Roger Hawkins, who relocated to Southern Nevada to serve as chief executive officer in charge of operations across the Americas for TCSJOHNHUXLEY, a casino equipment company with offices worldwide.

"Being from overseas, we tried to visit as many developments as possible during each visit and pretty much went to every neighborhood that offered homes within our price range," Hawkins said.

Ultimately, he said, nothing the family looked at compared to what they discovered at The Club at Madeira Canyon.

"Having looked at many homes and neighborhoods, and then visiting The Club at Madeira Canyon sales information center, we immediately saw that the quality of the homes was far superior to the other builders we had considered," Hawkins said. "The finishes and appointments were of a higher standard and the excellent warranties and sales service made this a natural choice for us.

"The icing on the cake," Hawkins said, "was the beauty of this community, with a fully equipped fitness center, swimming pool, spa, tennis courts, basketball court and lovely grassed-off areas for family walks and bike rides. It's just a lovely living environment."

The Hawkins family includes daughters Dani, 19; Yasmin, 9; and Philomena, 5. The roominess of the Barcelona floor plan satisfies the family's everyday needs and also accommodates visitors, Hawkins said.

"We got an excellent value on a large two-story home, with five bedrooms -- each with its own bath, plus an additional half bath," he said. "It's a home that offers plenty of space for the five of us, as well as extra room we need when friends and family visit us from England.

"It is amazing how popular we have become with people back home in England now that we live in Nevada," he added with a smile.

Homeowners in The Club at Madeira Canyon have access to a private clubhouse facility with a swimming pool and spa; cardiovascular and weight-training equipment, conference room with flat-screen monitors, kids' club, and sports courts. There are also locker rooms, massage rooms and an activities lawn.

The lifestyle also includes social events such as themed pool parties, movie nights, restaurant samplings and other get-togethers. Residents may also schedule services such as massage therapy.

Del Webb homes are constructed with Environments for Living building technologies such as blown-in cellulose insulation and dual-pane, vinyl-framed low-e windows. Homeowners benefit from decreased internal and external contaminants, better indoor air quality and decreased heating and cooling usage.

Additionally, Del Webb offers its Signature Standards, which includes numerous brand-name amenities as standard features. They include granite and Corian countertops, York heating and air-conditioning systems, Mohawk carpet, Moen faucets, Kohler plumbing fixtures, General Electric appliances, Schlage door hardware and Zodiaq natural quartz surfaces.

To visit The Club at Madeira Canyon, take the southern portion of Interstate 215, the Las Vegas Beltway, to Eastern Avenue and go south, past St. Rose Parkway, to Anthem Parkway, then turn left. Continue on Anthem about six miles, then make a left onto Bicentennial Parkway, a left onto Anthem Highlands Drive, and a left onto Democracy Drive, then follow the signs to the model park.

Office hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, except Wednesday when it opens at noon.
