Fairway Chevrolet plans grand opening celebration

Fairway Chevrolet Buick GMC, which has been in business for more than 43 years, recently completed a two-year, $12 million renovation project. To celebrate, the dealership is hosting a grand opening celebration Saturday.

"We are proud of our new state-of-the-art dealership and the business and jobs it will bring to the Las Vegas economy. And there's no better way to open our doors and show the community how proud we are of our new facility than to throw a party," General Manager Terry Hoisington said.

The event is open to the public and attendees will have several opportunities to win valuable prizes, including cash. Additionally, those attending will have the opportunity to taste and vote during a Food Truck Smackdown, which will pit several local food trucks against each other with one- or two-bite hors d'oeuvres. The winner of the competition will get a donation in their name to the local charity of their choice.

Also, Christina Winblad, winner of Fairway Chevrolet's Upgrade My Chevy promotion, will have her restored Chevrolet unveiled. Winblad entered her husband's 1967 Chevrolet Camaro and was selected from 50 entrants by a team of Fairway Chevrolet employees in June.

"We thought this would be a great opportunity to highlight our world-class service, parts, paint and collision departments and to give one lucky local Las Vegas resident a chance of a lifetime by restoring an old Chevy that needed a little TLC," Hoisington said.

The celebration begins at 10 a.m. with registration for the Food Truck Smackdown. Only the first 200 registrants will be allowed to participate in the voting for Las Vegas' best food truck, which begins at 11 a.m.

Customers will have a chance to win prizes including tickets to local shows, dinner certificates, an Apple iPad and a Kindle. Some prequalified contestants will get a chance to roll for an opportunity to win $10,000 cash.

The celebration culminates at 2 p.m. with the unveiling of Winblad's vehicle.
