Reader Review: LeAnn Rimes Was ‘Disastrous’

I will always post your reader reviews of shows, concerts, sporting events and pretty much any Vegas experience you want to share. Today brings a pan of LeAnn Rimes, who sang Saturday

First of all, we were very anxious to hear LeAnn in concert. We have several of her recordings from her earliest days. They are replete with gentle songs employing the unique tones and qualities of her voice.

We were expressly privileged and pleased to be afforded a VIP pass to backstage, and to have our picture taken with LeAnn. Following the backstage visit, we took our seats in one of the "upfront" rows. Following the lead act, which was not particularly impressive, we sat for in excess of 30 minutes while that act cleared their equipment from the stage and LeAnn's crew installed their extensive amplifiers, microphones, etc.

Note: This to my way of thinking, because I have the experience of being the General Manager of a couple of Strip properties, was especially onerous to a casino operator. To hold that audience of 2,000, or whatever the count was, for that extended period of time, excluding them from access to the casino, would have been cause to admonish, penalize or cancel the contract of the lead entertainer.

Now to Leann's concert and performance.......................DISASTROUS!

The sound level was to the extreme. We were forced to leave the performance after only three numbers. The amplifier and speakers were set so high that it was difficult to distinguish any sound other that an ear-splitting lever of bass, drums and lead guitar, to say nothing of the backup performers. LeAnn did not "sing" anything. She shouted into the mike (screamed is more like it) what were lyrics — we presume.

The antics and gyrations of the lead bass player made it clear that he considered his part of the performance to be at least as important as that of LeAnn. Most certainly he must have felt his "musical offerings" if you can call them that, were of paramount importance. They were a serious distraction.

It is a complete mystery to me why a talented and successful vocalist would allow the complete adulteration of her work by a group of extremists who value the volume of their offerings above the quality of their sound.

We left the concert and listened to her sensuous, unique voice, on our discs in the car on the way back to Las Vegas.

Hopeful that you may seriously consider these comments as representative of the several if not many of the patrons who joined us on the return Tram from Whiskey Pete's to Primm after their premature exit form the concert.
