Shake Shack branches out from Strip to Downtown Summerlin

Shake Shack takes a simple concept — hot dogs and burgers and the essentials that go with them — and turns it into a fun place to recharge.

The East Coast-based eatery’s newest Las Vegas Valley location is in the Dining Arroyo at the northern end of Downtown Summerlin, 10975 Oval Park Drive, Suite 160. But you can find it by veering slightly off the arroyo’s waterway, where it’s nestled in the corner.

The restaurant is Shake Shack’s second in Las Vegas, after opening at New York-New York on the Strip in December 2014. The Downtown Summerlin is just slightly smaller, with the same menu offering five burgers, including one that will make vegetarian tastebuds stand up and smile — it’s made with portobello mushroom and dubbed the ‘Shroom Burger.

The others (meat options are made with all Angus beef) are the ShakeBurger with ShackSauce, cheeseburger with applewood-smoked bacon, the basic hamburger and the Shack Stack, which combines the cheeseburger with the ‘Shroom Burger.

For the griddled, flat-top hot dogs, choose the Shack-cago Dog with relish, onion, pickle and cucumber, the ShackMeister Dog with cheddar and American cheeses and marinated shallots, the Vienna all-beef hot dog or the Chicken Dog, featuring chicken, apple and sage sausage made exclusively for the restaurant.

Burgers and hot dogs go down better with Shake Shack’s crinkle-cut fries, which can be topped with a melted cheese blend.

Also, leave room for dessert. Whether you want the frozen custard (made with not a drop of corn syrup) in a cone, a cup or a shake, there’s plenty of options to choose from, as well as floats made with root beer, purple cow or creamsicle.

Specialty custard flavors are offered on a monthly basis, and the Downtown Summerlin location features some special concretes with a Summerlin theme: Summerlin S’more (chocolate custard, marshmallow sauce, graham cracker and chocolate truffle cookie dough), the Red Velvet Rocks (vanilla custard and a slice of Gimme Some Sugar red velvet cheesecake) and Desert Crunch-stellation (vanilla custard, malt, Guittard chocolate chunks and chocolate toffee).

The eatery also offers Shake Shack’s exclusive Brooklyn Brewery ShackMeister Ale, as well as Ninkasi, Fat Tire and Sin City Seasonal. Wine offerings are Shack Red and Shack White wine from Napa-based Frog’s Leap Winery, and also Kings Estate, Sonoma-Cutrer, A to Z Wineworks and 7 Deadly Zins.

The Downtown Summerlin location has partnered with Community In Schools of Nevada, with 5 percent of sales from the Red Velvet Rocks to be donated to the nonprofit.

And if you’re dining on the patio with Fido, he’ll find a Bag O’ Bones just for him.

Hours at Downtown Summerlin are from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Call 702-964-1025 or visit shakeshack.com.
