SOUP AND POKER: Gamblers Book Club’s offer
April 1, 2009 - 4:05 pm
Howard Schwartz marks his 30th anniversary at the helm of the amazing Gamblers Book Club on 11th Street later this year, but the big news is he plans to move the ultimate source of betting information from its longtime location.
Problem is, Howard has too much stuff.
Stacks and stacks of stuff. Mountains of stuff. Enough stuff to fill several book shops. So he has devised a plan to rid his warehouse of some of its stuff while helping out local food banks.
And the soup exchange is born.
Bring in a can of soup to GBC and you’ll receive a free poker book (of his choosing, not yours.) The cans will go to a good cause, and you’ll benefit from learning about the game over which you’ve been tossing away the kids’ college fund.
It starts Friday. Just remember, the soup must be in a can — not in a bowl.
"A can of soup, or a can of stew would be good," says Howard. "They could even bring in a can of peaches. I don't care. I'll donate it to the food banks."
